Every board game here has two ways to play: against the computer, which plays fairly and at a child's level, or two-player on the same screen, passing the tablet. Snakes and Ladders is luck, for four- and five-year-olds. Tic-Tac-Toe and Four in a Row are the first strategy games, from about five. Checkers is the real one, for seven and up — and the computer will beat a child who does not think ahead, which is rather the point. No dice to lose, no pieces under the sofa.
