How to play
Tap one of your pieces. The spots it can go to glow.
Tap a glowing spot and your piece hops there.
If you can hop over a wombat, you must. The piece that can hop glows gold and an arrow shows the way.
Reach the far side to get a crown. A King can move backwards too.
Hop over all the wombats, or leave them no moves, to win. Each win clears a stage, wins a new team and takes you to a new place.
Checkers (draughts) is the classic board game, rebuilt so a young child can win it on day one and an older one still has a real game later. Your pieces are kawaii Aussie animals on chunky red checkers; the friendly computer plays the wombats. Tap a piece and the spots it can go to glow; tap a glowing spot and it hops there. When a hop over a wombat is possible it is a must, and the game shows it clearly: the piece glows gold and a dotted arrow arcs over the wombat to a star on the landing spot. A hopped piece sees stars and bounces off to your pile, never hurt. Reach the far side and a golden crown drops on your piece: now it is a King and can move backwards too. The first games are on a small 6-by-6 board with six pieces each, against a computer that is still learning and leaves pieces for you to hop, so a first game takes about a minute and usually ends in a win. Every game you win is a stage cleared: play stops for a big 'Stage clear!' cheer, you win a new team, and the next game is set up in a new place: a garden, the beach, the snow, Candy Land and outer space. The board and the computer grow a little each stage. The teams you win (quokkas, platypuses, galahs, kangaroos and echidnas) are picked from Teams on the end card. Two players can share one screen from the button on the end card. It teaches planning ahead, looking before you move, and a little patience. Scores are kept on your own device.
