About this sheet

What comes next? Each row on this Halloween worksheet shows a picture pattern, pumpkin, ghost, pumpkin, ghost, and an empty box at the end. Children say the pattern out loud, work out what comes next and draw it in the box. The patterns start simple, with two pictures taking turns, and then grow to patterns of three and doubled pictures, so children aged 4–6 can build up step by step. Spotting patterns is an important early maths skill that helps with counting, sorting and later with times tables. Encourage children to clap or tap along as they say each pattern. Once the boxes are filled, every picture can be colored. The answers are a ghost, a moon, a sweet, a pumpkin, a lollipop and an acorn. Then try Pattern Maker on screen.
