About these games

Our picks and what they practise

Geography at this age is mostly about building a mental map: knowing there are seven continents and roughly where they sit, recognising a handful of flags, and attaching a few famous places and animals to the right part of the world. The games here do exactly that, and because most of them are quizzes with four choices, a child who does not know an answer still learns it by the second round.

Flag Quiz is the easiest starting point, from about five: the first rounds match a flag to the same flag. World Map Explorer suits six to nine — fly Quokka's balloon to each animal's home continent, then find the oceans and famous natural wonders.

Our picks

What they practise

  • The seven continents and five oceans, and where they are
  • Flags and countries — famous ones first, then the long tail
  • Capital cities, once the countries are familiar
  • Natural wonders and animals as anchors for places on the map
