About this sheet

What comes next? Each row on this Christmas worksheet shows a picture pattern, tree, star, tree, star, and an empty box at the end. Children say the pattern out loud, work out what comes next and draw it in the box. The patterns start simple, with two pictures taking turns, then grow to patterns of three and doubled pictures, so children aged 4 to 6 can build up step by step. Spotting patterns is an important early maths skill. Clap or tap along while saying each pattern. The answers are a star, an ornament, a candy cane, a tree, a Santa hat and a star. Print on plain A4. Then try Pattern Maker on screen.
